Answer the Phone, Show Up On Time
We built this company specifically because that used to not happen for Peoria customers, so it's non-negotiable now.
Peoria Garage Door Repair Guys started in 2015 when Danny Kowalski and Ray Petrovic decided their own hometown deserved better than the leftover attention it was getting from the Chicago-based company they used to work for.

Danny Kowalski spent almost a decade as an installer and repair technician for a garage door company headquartered in Chicago. He learned the trade there and got good at it — springs, cables, tracks, openers, the whole mechanical puzzle of a residential door — but the company treated the Peoria market like an afterthought. Routes got padded with far-flung stops, the same handful of techs covered the entire Tri-County Area, and a homeowner out in Peoria Heights or Morton could end up waiting two or three days for a callback that would've been handled same-day in the suburbs the company actually cared about.
Danny grew up in Peoria — his dad worked at one of the riverfront manufacturing plants — and it bothered him watching his own hometown get pushed to the back of the line by a company he was cashing a paycheck from. In 2015, he teamed up with Ray Petrovic, a longtime friend from the trade, and the two of them started their own two-man outfit. That's where the "Guys" in the name comes from — plural, on purpose. It wasn't a rebrand of some franchise. It was two guys who actually lived in Peoria deciding to answer their own phone and show up when they said they would.
A garage door is one of those things nobody thinks about until it won't open and the car's stuck inside, or it won't close and the house is sitting wide open overnight. Danny saw firsthand, years before he ever owned a company, what happens when a business decides a market is too small or too far to bother with — the calls get shuffled to the bottom of the board and the homeowner just has to wait it out.
That's the exact thing he built this company to not do. Every job that comes in from West Bluff, Peoria Heights, Morton, or anywhere else in the Tri-County Area gets treated like it matters, because Danny remembers what it felt like when it didn't. He still handles the quoting and most of the writing on this site himself, and he'd rather give a straight, honest repair quote than let a customer sit on hold wondering if anyone's coming.
Between the years Danny spent at the Chicago-headquartered company and the eleven years he and Ray have run Peoria Garage Door Repair Guys since 2015, he's been working on garage doors for close to two decades. That covers a lot of ground — older wood-and-steel sectional doors original to West Bluff and Uplands homes, newer builds out toward Dunlap, and every kind of torsion spring failure a hard Central Illinois winter can throw at a door.
Ray brings his own long run in the trade to the crew and still handles a good chunk of the day-to-day service calls, which means customers aren't only getting one technician's experience — they're getting two guys who've each spent years underneath these doors. When something breaks after hours or on short notice, that combined experience is a big part of why our same-day response actually holds up instead of being a line on a website.
Danny's a regular at the Peoria Riverfront Market, the seasonal farmers market that sets up near the Riverfront Museum, and he's sponsored a youth baseball team in the past. Nothing flashy — just a guy who grew up here, whose dad worked the riverfront plants, showing up around town the same way he'd want a neighbor to.
The shop itself sits on West Main Street in the West Bluff neighborhood, a few blocks from Bradley University, which keeps the crew close to the older homes and historic housing stock that make up a lot of that side of Peoria and its surrounding communities. Between the riverfront's manufacturing history and the newer restaurants and museum along the water today, Danny's seen this city change over the years without losing the parts of it that made him want to build a business here in the first place. More on the city's own history and services is available through the City of Peoria.
Danny's still the face of the company and does the writing and quoting; Ray still runs a solid chunk of the day-to-day service calls. It's a small-team operation on purpose — not a solo-founder story with a hired crew tacked on, but two guys, plus the technicians who've joined since, running calls across Peoria and out to Morton and the rest of the Tri-County Area.
The mission hasn't changed since 2015: answer the phone, show up when we say we will, and give every homeowner the same honest diagnosis and free upfront quote regardless of whether they're a five-minute drive from the shop or out on the edge of our service area. If you've got a door that's making noise, stuck, or off its tracks, give our crew a call and we'll get someone out to look at it.
We built this company specifically because that used to not happen for Peoria customers, so it's non-negotiable now.
We tell you what's actually wrong with the door before we ever talk about fixing it, in plain language.
Every technician who shows up at your door, whether it's Danny, Ray, or one of the guys, is insured and background-checked.
This is Danny and Ray's hometown, not a territory assigned from a Chicago office.
If something about a repair isn't right, we want the call back before you have to go looking for someone else to fix it.
Yes. Danny Kowalski and Ray Petrovic started the company in 2015 out of Peoria, and it's still run by the two of them today — not a franchise or a call center routing to a wider territory.
Danny spent almost a decade as an installer and repair technician for a Chicago-headquartered garage door company before co-founding this business in 2015, giving him close to two decades of hands-on experience. Ray brings his own long run in the trade as well.
Ray still runs a solid chunk of the day-to-day service calls. Danny does most of the writing and quoting and is still very much a working technician, but this has always been a two-man-founded, small-team operation.
Danny grew up in Peoria and spent years watching a Chicago-based employer treat this market as an afterthought, with routes padded and callbacks delayed compared to the suburbs the company prioritized. He and Ray started this company in 2015 to fix that for their own hometown.
